Re: [livefromthehook] 12/30 show review what did i miss

thanks gayle. i had great opportunity to speak with both delbert and big
al anderson about those fabled mineshaft days. it was as special for them
as us, and the bits of detail they retain-names (including yourself) etc.
is incredible, if a bit spotty. both are now well behaved and healthy, and
in great form. Big Al played with a quartet, bass, drum, back-up guitar,
and he sang and picked his way through a great set of his own american rock
and roll. wow!
of course delbert ruled the roost with 1848 of his faithful on hand, and
a constant parade of exceptional talent joined in to help his already
fantastic band. anson funderburg sat in on blues guitar and there are few,
if any, better. becka bramlett and betty lavette sang back-up a lot and
varied horn players wandered in and out at random. the legenday cajun, jo
el sonnier joined on accordian for a few, giving a new twist to the old good
stuff. from the very first delbert band we ever saw, my pal, lewis
stephens joined in for the whole thing on the hammond B3, while kevin played
the roland so fast his fingers blurred, and i think i got that on vid, and
have stills for sure.
the first time she played marcia ball looked out at the crowd and said
"I feel like i'm in my living room, i know everyone, and have talked to
all yall already".
gayle i just feel so very blessed to be able to do that. sure the music
is off the board but the love, the togetherness, is indescribable, the best
therapy i could ever get. wendy asked me back for another go-round. we
cruise the waters off mexico next year, as we leave from san diego.
lucky dave
