Hi and thanks for another great question :)
Yes, I was teased all through school. I think Jr. High was just about the height
of terror for
a fat girl. I'm still not sure how I made it through those years! When I was
cast in my first
play as a sophmore in high school, a lot changed. It was a comedy and I made the
students laugh. This gave them a reason to have a little respect for me. So, I
would say
that the character of Christine Banks in Boston Public would most resemble my
life. For
those that didn't watch the show, I played an overweight girl who starts beating
up kids in
school for teasing her. The wrestling coach helps her focus this strength in the
wrestling
ring. She goes on to be very successful at this and stand up against those who
call her
names. Most kids either become introverted or defensive when they are labeled as
outcasts for their size, looks, etc. I was sassy! I would always run my mouth
and defend
myself with sarcasm. I've never let anyone get away with insulting me. I just
don't believe
in that.
Most favorite role would have to be Christine Banks because I was able to play
her for four
episodes and it was my first job in this town. I have such great memories of
that set and
cast. I still remember the way the sound stage smelled when I first walked in. A
close
second would be Nanette Babcock. I loved playing her from sweet and hopeful to
desperate and crazy!
Least fav role would have to be Margie in Strong Medicine. I just didn't do a
good job with
her.
A question for the group: What is your favorite character ?
Love,
L.
