GO AHEAD AND SCREAM
Thirteen-day film contest for kids to debut at
HAUNTED NEWPORT Horror Film Festival

NEWPORT, RI -- Hey, Kids! Can you "scare up" a 13-minute horror
film in just 13 days? Here are all the gory details about the
Scarytale Shoot, a new event hosted by the HAUNTED NEWPORT Horror Film
Festival:

How it works
Filmmakers send their entry form (signed by a parent, teacher or
guardian) to the HAUNTED NEWPORT Horror Film Festival (HNHFF). If you
are accepted into the competition, you will receive instructions on
how to obtain the "mystery prop", which must appear in every shot of
the film. (This ensures that everybody plays fair.) You'll also learn
the identity of the Mystery Location, the Newport site where you will
drop off your completed film. All films must be shot, edited and
completed within the first 13 days of October. Films must include at
least one shot of a HAUNTED NEWPORT event or attraction. Accepted
films will be screened at the 2004 HAUNTED NEWPORT Horror Film
Festival. (Date and location to be announced.)

Eligibility
Any individual who is 9-17 years old. You don't have to live in
Newport (or Rhode Island, for that matter) but you do need to shoot at
least one HAUNTED NEWPORT scene here.

Entry Guidelines
Content: Whether it's frightening or mysterious, make sure your horror
film has a good story and not just a lot of blood and stabbings. (And
do not even think about using copyrighted music or film footage.)
Format: You can shoot with anything you like but the final product
must be submitted on VHS only. (Sorry, HNHFF does not provide
equipment.) Adult Assistance: You can include adults as part of
your cast (or to drive you to a location), but your film crew must
consist of kids (ages 9-17) only. Length: Nothing over 13 minutes.
(Anything else is considered unlucky.) Entry Fee: None! (Hey, who
says scarytales don't come true?!)

Judging
Judging is based on originality, direction, acting and storytelling. A
panel of adult and kid judges (some filmmakers, some horror film
buffs) will make the final determination.

Prizes
Prizes will be awarded for the Most Creative, Best Original Story,
Best Use of the Mystery Prop and the Best in Show.

Deadline
All films must be shot, edited, completed and submitted to the Mystery
Location no later than Thursday, October 14.

To receive the official entry form, send a long, self-addressed
stamped envelope to: HAUNTED NEWPORT Horror Film Festival, P.O. Box
12, Newport, RI 02840 or print from the website at
http://www.hauntednewport.net/scarytaleshoot.htm.
