Hi, just amazed there is a group on this film. I first saw Kes as a
teenager in the early seventies and found it extremely disturbing
because it was so close to my experience of what was going on at
school. I watched it again last year, as a 40 year old, and thought
it was a beautiful work of poetry - the school scenes were still just
as disturbing, but I now saw the beauty in Billy's relationship with
Kes. The film inspired me and, along with Poor Cow, struck me as Ken
Loach being at his most intimate best - both films convey a love for
their characters that is missing in some of the other new wave. I
was an outsider at school and this film really speaks to me. Would
be interested to hear why others think it such a good film.
