Bradley had to change his name to Dai in order to
register with Actors' Equity as there was already another
actor of the same name on the books. Before he did
that, he rang up the other bloke (David was about
seventeen at the time) and told him he (David) would always
be remembered as Billy Casper from Kes and the other
actor ought to change his name, in answer to which the
other told him to sod off. (That other David Bradley is
still doing very well. Recent appearances on telly and
films include Vanity Fair, Our Mutual Friend, Tom's
