As I approach retirement age, movies that evoke nostalgia about times
when I was young have become more interesting, even when there is no
sex or violence!
Just saw "Before Sunset." My wife picked out five DVDs from the racks
and said "pick one." All appeared to be chick flicks, but the
illustration on the cover caught my eye, as my wife is blonde and
beautiful, and it was set in Paris, so I chose it.
The wife immediately fell asleep, as "it was just talking and so boring."
Indeed, I thought it might be boring in the first few minutes, but
then Julie Delpy showed up, and as the conversation progressed, I
found that talking was not boring, that I could listen to that woman
talk the rest of my life.
It was a most remarkable movie and most remarkable performance.
Should have won the Academy Award that year.
