Joan Henrietta Collins OBE (born May 23, 1933), British actress + bestselling author, born in London, England to Joseph William "Will" Collins (a South African-born Jewish talent agent) + Elsa Bessant (English); trained at Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA, with Roger Moore + Michael Caine; has one sister, author Jackie Collins, and a brother.

At 17, signed to J. Arthur Rank, highly profitable English studio + charm school.

In 1951, made feature debut as beauty contest entrant in Lady Godiva Rides and in early 1950s, posed for pin-up photos + acted in B-movies in the UK. In 1954, signed by 20th Century Fox as their answer to Elizabeth Taylor.

But, after her youthful and highly splashy career as a sultry starlet, became known more for her personal affairs with such as Warren Beatty than her on-screen achievements. After losing such high-profile roles as Cleopatra (cast when Elizabeth Taylor fell ill, but dumped on Liz's recovery), worked in films and TV, notable guest appearances on American TV during the 1960s including Star Trek , Batman , Mission Impossible + Police Woman.

In the 1970s, starred in film versions of several of sister Jackie's romantic novels The Bitch and The Stud: like the books, trashy, full of nudity + raunchy s*x scenes – and smash hits in England, the most profitable films since the James Bond series!
