Jessica's status from Japanese Snacks   Message List

I went on the Japanese Snacks website to ask about JC. Here's what I
got back from the webmaster there:

Well, Jessica and I have been best friends for going on 4 years now
so you have come to the right place for information.

She isn't doing as much anime voice work as she use to. The industry
has greatly changed since I had my anime magazine which was really
the height of some of the best voice work from a lot of the
companies. The rush is on to churn out as much as possible and the
quality has just gone downhill. Jessica, and several others, left
the anime business due to this general lack of quality from the
companies that they did work for. Not to mention the lack of
paychecks. (voice actors sometimes don't even get paid for the work
they do, at least not in NY. And some of the anime companies pay
like a year later.) I know that the entire Excel Saga mess at ADV
was something that upset her greatly and may have permanently
tainted her interest in the anime business. She pretty much no
longer does anything fan related like conventions and the like due
to the fact that they never really were a very positive experience
for her. Neither Jessica nor Lisa Ortiz, who is another good friend,
do conventions anymore. Lisa is all over the WB and I believe the
cartoon network but she hasn't been to a convention in years. No
time mainly. And remember, conventions don't pay to have their
American guests flown in or even give them a daily stipend. Actors
have to pay their own way even if they are invited and that's quite
a bit of money to shell out (hotel stay for three days and flight to
where ever the con is) It's not really worth it.

Jessica recently left Emerging Artists Theatre in order to focus
more on her television and commercial voice over career. In fact, my
design company, will be rebuilding Jessica's website to focus solely
on her new career direction. I will be speaking with her about it
this week as far as what she wants there now. Her first ever
commerical I posted online not to long ago. So we'll see how things
go from there.
