I was in a car accident 9 hours ago...
I was driving my Ford Explorer home from work on one of my usual
routes when a smaller car began speeding right behind me. He swerved
to miss me, but lost control and spun into my driver-side rear,
sending my SUV into the median, smack into a tree at 40 mph.
I didn't lose consciousness - although I never saw the airbag
coming. Fighting against the pain now wracking my arms and torso, I
managed to shut off the engine, unhook my seat belt and open the
driver side door. As I stepped out I noticed a few good samaritans
gathering - one of them a nurse (talk about good luck). The nurse
instructed me to lie down and remain still while several dialed for
help.
The police and paramedics arrived very quickly - the accident had
occured not too far from the police station and the hospital where I
would be taken. The ER crew got to work on me and called my parents.
A police officer would later interview me about the incident. The
doctors tested fluid samples and took X-rays and CAT scans.
Fortunately, I suffered no severe damage save for several abrasions
("belt burn"), bruises, a laceration across my left knuckles and a
minor concussion. I was released after 8 hours.
The police told me that the vehicle that hit me was a budget rent-a-
car, and that several eyewitnesses saw two hispanic men abandon the
vehicle and take off on foot following the crash. I'll leave those
bastards to the authorities - more than anything, I'm happy to be
alive.
I take my leave now to rest and recuperate, but I'll be touch, my
friends.
Sincerely yours,
Edgard
