New Edge Theater’s recent excursions to Paris, France and Sitges, Spain have
resulted in the financial backing to bring a live production of “Mambo X Man …
the adventure continues” Off Broadway this fall.



“An overnight success that took thirty years to produce,” explains company
co-director Maria Hernandez. The musical dramedy features the music, words and
set design of Nuyorican Playwright El Extreme (New Edge Director Luis Chaluisan)
based on his archive of work stretching back to 1975.



According to Electric Cabaret music director Brian Tully, “It’s been a long haul
to get to this point. I came on board in 1989 when Luis brought his ideas to
Albany NY and formed La Gran Orquesta El Extreme to workshop his musical ideas.
When we launched this latest phase of the work last September I had a feeling
that we were headed down the final stretch. All those hours of recording our
presentations with and without audience proved to be the best selling point to
the backers.”



Tully is currently mixing the musical score for the show which is set to be
released as a deluxe box set in September.



“We took a page out of the Andrew Lloyd Weber notebook who has recorded his
musicals as LPS before actually premiering the live work,” says Tully. Plus we
did everything we could to keep the lid on the actual goal all this time.



New Edge is holding filmed auditions this Saturday June 25th at MNN Studios in
Manhattan. Here is an opportunity for both equity/non-equity actors and
musicians in newedgemambohiphop to cash in on their talents.



“The auditions are from noon to three pm,” notes group products manager
Raimundo, “You must bring a headshot, resume and 5 minutes of prepared material
either as an actor, singer, musician or dancer. We suggest actors bring two
monologues – one of them being any sequence from the play SPIC CHIC which is on
our group file section. It must be memorized and those auditioning will be
filmed as part of the final decision process.
