(7/15/03, 1 p.m. ET) -- Who says you can't believe everything you read? Jennifer
Lopez and Ben Affleck, Hollywood's 'it' couple of the moment--at least until
Ashton and Demi came along--are widely reported as having met on the set of
their soon-to-be-released movie, Gigli.
Apparently, this is true--but the soon-to-be Mrs. Affleck is disputing a minor
point with Reader's Digest. The singer-turned-actress denies that there were any
romantic overtones during the film shoot, at which point she was still married
to dancer Cris Judd, telling the magazine, quote, "We just became friends. I'm a
very faithful person. If somebody had told me, 'Ben's attracted to you,' I would
have said, 'No. I wasn't raised that way.'"
Jennifer Lopez also tells LAUNCH that she sometimes resents having to explain
the details of her personal life. "A lot of people speculate, and they don't
know the real story most of the times, and it's a personal thing," Lopez said.
"It's not really for public consumption that way."
Lopez admits that she understands that the public is often interested in the
private lives of celebrities, but she'd like a little more privacy anyway. "I
realize that there's an interest in what you do in your personal life and
everything because you're in movies, or you do music and stuff like that, and
people want to know," Lopez said. "But I always think it's better when the
mystery is there. I think that's kind of ruined things in a way--the fact that
there's so much tabloid and so much probing into the private lives of
people--because it can be destructive."
Gigli will arrive in theaters on July 30. The drama focuses on two rookie
gangsters (Affleck and Lopez) who are charged with the task of kidnapping the
younger brother of a competing crime family's boss.
