Hey, the web is not gonna wait for you. the longer you keep an old out
of date broswer running the longer more and more will stop working.
More and more IT folks are NOT willing to keep their systems out of
date for a small population who are afraid of change.

Erm...isn't the point of CSS to gracefully degrade on older browsers so
browser snobs don't have the right to nag those of us on older machines as
to what browser we should/shouldn't use? Furthermore, putting the default
as pale blue links over pale blue background is actually *against* W3C/WAI
recommendations since it can be difficult to navigate for the visually
impaired. Less contrast is bad, mmmkay? Yes owners can change it, but
before they can, some users will find navigation difficult.
Oh, and those of us with smaller screens now have it all crammed up so
tight that it's hard to read because of the ads on the side. Care to nag
me about how I ought to go spend money on a larger monitor? Not everyone
is fortunate enough to be able to afford the latest and greatest machines,
thankyouverymuch.
Sage, thank you for posting the petition link. While I agree that the old
format had problems, the new one stinks and creates more problems for me
and many folks on my other groups. I despise only having 5 groups on the
My Groups page and the reordering thing doesn't work right in my
browser. Oh, whoopsie, I guess I have to upgrade because "jen the web
designer" said so. >:(

I own over ten groups - I could care less, it's easier for me to look
at, it loads faster and it has a much needed org revamp. The old one
was all over the place sometimes have to go to three places to alter
different aspects of ONE thing. I all the time would forget where to
find the Footer or description info stuff. And I am not a web flunky in
the least, so it it was messing me up it would certainly screw up
noobs.
They don't ask me to approve of the mails showing up three days late
sometimes, why would they ask me about an improvement? Lol!
(Actually they did - yahoo does have a committee of invited surveyors
of list owners, etc... I was invited to be on one lonnnnng survey
questionare some months ago... they pick a couple thousand list owners
at random to invite to survey on potential changes to system features.
A focus group really. A few hundred actually read the mail and go do
the survey. So they DO run some ideas with owners on potential changes,
just not ALL the owners, which is not only impossible but extremely
time wasting and doesn't help at all.)
You should know by now anytime you have a free service hosted anywhere
that you are up to the whims of the the service operators. You aren't
paying anything, they don't owe you anything. You are not doding them a
favor hosting your list of Pokemon/Harry Potter Fan Fiction there. Just
the mindset you have to adopt when using free services. They have a
million groups members, they can't please everyone, all they can do is
bring it "up to code" - and the code constantly changes. The more they
update it the better it gets in the long run for most people.
i'm just happy they finally did it, I've been pissing and moaning over
the old ugly look for a year or more.

*Jen, While I'm sure you are quite correct, it seems to me that big

*owners*. Yeah, sure, there may well have been a lot yelling and
hollering and 'we want this and thats' but if they can host this many

Having the posts come in reverse order when using next seems to indicate
they weren't as ready as they thought they were. Things like that should
not have been an issue. Nor should the address issues I had. It's not so
much how it looks now, as the uneccessary glitches that got group owners
upset and having it land on us one fine day like lightning on a sunny day.

So sorry to hear of your loss, Sage. It is always a difficult
decision to make.
I struggled with the same in having Twinkie (my 17 year old Yorkie)
put to sleep. It was thought she had a mental problem and her
quality of life was diminishing. It wasn't anything major, just
caused her to become almost obsessive compulsive and she would walk
in circles constantly and was somewhat incontinent.
But in the end you know you made the right decision. It will not be
something to come to terms with easily, but Heyward is in a better
place because of your courage to do the right thing.

We had to do this a couple years ago. We had 2 cats that were 15. One was
senile and didn't know much. He used to be in the bathtub or the closet
crying. Vet said he didn't have anythin physical wrong with him. He just
wasn't happy. The other one we took with us when we moved, but she was too
old and didn't adapt well. All she would do was sleep all day and not eat.
Then at night she would go to the basement and scream all night.
We have one left that is about 8. He is happy as long as he can go out and
sit on the deck and check on the neighborhood.

Hi Sage
I'm so sorry for you and I know exactly how you are feeling. It's
been a year since my cat Nellie had to be put to sleep. She had
benign ulcers that started off in her front leg, I payed for the
operation to have them removed (plus the additional fee of the
biopsy.) But the vet told me that the root of the lump had dug itself
into her ligaments, so to remove the lump completely would cause her
more harm than good.
The lumps came back into her leg, so we had to do the radical thing
of amputating her leg. I hated the fact that I had to do it. But she
adapted well. 10 months later, I was stroking her one day and noticed
a group of lumps behind her collar. I knew what it was, and I took
her to the vets, he informed me that it was only a matter of time
till things got bad for her.
He was right, 3 weeks later, a lump burst and she kept scratching at
it and making it worse. So me and my mum took her to PDSA. When we
got out of the car, in a way she knew as well as she tried to run
away. She scratched my chest and the inside of my arm, but we took
her in and the vet said that it would be kinder to end it now, rather
than her being in more and more pain. It was the hardest decision
that I had ever had to make. But I knew that it was better for her,
and I know that she's in a better place where there's no suffering.
My scratches have scarred, and every now and then I'll look at them
and remeber when she died.
It takes time, but things will get better and easier for you.

Hi everyone,
If I'm not mistaken, they indeed filmed part of Trekkies2 at FedCon 2003,
where Toffee, Dorothée and I met Jason. I have not seen the film though
and I can't say if we're on it. :-)

Hi again everyone,
Just saw Trekkies2 last night and one of the first cons shown in the
film is FedCon in Bonn, Germany. So I was wondering (and looking
intently) to see if any of you made it thru the cutting room floor
(Toffee? Danny? Dorothee?). So do tell!
Unfortunately, DragonCon was not mentioned (sorry Bailin...:-( )
It's a great one to watch, as well as the original Trekkies....and in
light of Josie's last posting....some interesting timing and
perspectives to consider.

Hi folks,
Per TV Guide Online, the SCI-Fi Channel will be airing ROAR: Red
Boot tomorrow at 8:00am.
Check your local listings.
Thanks,
Jo-el
Hi Guys,
Just saw your discussion Danny with Jo-el. Glad that there are fans
like you and I and all of us who would push for Jason to be onscreen
(remember "Cast Jason as Sirius Black?" a tireless effort and worthy
of applause) but I agree with Jo-el's perception here of what is
going on....this is an industry thing...and you make a great point
about supply and demand to consider.
However, from what I've seen here at the JCFC site of some film
projects (and maybe this also comes from working as a
writer/illustrator at a not-for-profit agency) this is a numbers
game - especially with the Indie film circuit. IF the funds aren't
there....then productions gets stalled.
This has happened on several awareness campaigns for myself at
work....and the behind the scenes workings with financial support (or
lack thereof) can greatly affect the outcome as to whether a project
will ever see the light of day.
It would be nice to be proved wrong, of course...but we're talking
drumming up investors and the like for production costs.
An excellent film worth seeing that illustrates this is "Full-tilt
Boogie" a behind-the-scenes look at the making of From Dusk Til Dawn
with Quentin Tarantino. You get a real feel for what production
people - and the actors themselves - go thru to get a film made.
I think everyone here wishes the same as you Danny, Jo-el included
(hey - she's the prez after all! lol!). Hopefully, we'll get to see
the Mesmerist out soon....cuz I agree with you....Jason's work is
exceptional in this from what I've seen of the trailer.
LOL! And from the great description of Jason's entrance you told us
of....I can't help smirking about the fact that Art could imitate
Life here...(that social vampire thing! About that need for
applause ;-) )
OK - enuff musing for now.....back to tending to a sick child....
Cheers!
Laura O
No wonder, I dare to disagree. :-) So-called "fans" have a lot of power
if they pool her resources. It's all about offer and demands. If there
is no demand or nobody "seems" interested, why should they ever release
the movie?
Of course, I'm not saying that we *should* flood the poor guy's mailbox
(and I'm sure he has various address and not only a "yahoo" one), but he
should know that there is a market for this kind of stuff and I dare to
say that one voice only isn't enough :-)

The soul would have no rainbow
if the eyes had no tears
mac@...http://www.dextersworld.de
I do not believe writing to him will help. That isn't how you get
films out on DVD, and I don't think it is his decision. Same thing
with getting some films released in theaters, it is a matter of
distribution and costs.
If it is released great, if not then that is a disappointment.
We'll see what happens and I do my best to keep folks posted. After
all, Midsummer's Night Rave just finally got released on DVD. It
just can take time for some of the Indie films and some never get
released.
So I do not recommend flooding Terry's email box asking for this on
DVD. He is very busy and his email address is also used for
business purposes. I'm already writing to him and keeping Donna up-
to-date.
Thanks,
Jo-el
