Jason will be at additional JumpCon events, not just Boston. There
is also a sort of Babylon 5 Reunion happening at the Washington DC
event. Please visit the main convention site and check all cities
for the current guest lists. They are being updated as contracts are
finalized.
Speaking of Boston, repost from the JCFC, Jason will be doing an
acting workshop:
Just an FYI that Jason will be presenting the Fearless Art at this
event:
Jason Carter presents The Fearless Art A Freeplay Acting Class
Freeplay uses a variety of exercises, or `games', to free up the
performer physically, vocally, intellectually and emotionally.
Participants can enjoy the expression of their imaginations and,
while pre-occupied with the shared fun and demands of each game, find
themselves creating theatre. Participants should wear loose
comfortable clothes and sensible shoes. It's much easier to feel free
if you can move! Group warm up: I begin with a series of focused
exercises that help reacquaint players with their various body parts
as they stretch and warm them up. Controlled breathing practice and
group games with vocalization warm up voices and develop group
feeling, helping liberate participants from self-consciousness. After
the warm up I divide the class into two groups who take turns to
watch or be watched playing the various games of improvisation. The
games begin simply with `movement improvisation' such as `Divided
Room' with a line on the floor separating two different states: Hot -
Cold, Light - Heavy, Monkeys Humans, etc. Players must cross the
line and transform from one state to the other. They progress to
highly charged games of the imagination like `The Emotion Party'
where each new guest arriving at the party has a particular emotional
quality which all at the party have to pick up on and adopt. Finally
a short two-person scene of `Empty Dialogue'. Empty dialogue is non-
specific dialogue. The class pair up. Each pair has to rehearse. They
have to decide who they are, their relationship, where they are and
what happened and then show us the scene but only say the written
words. Same words - very different stories. I believe whether
improvising dialogue with few basic rules, or playing scripted
dialogue for stage or television, all of acting is fundamentally the
same game. All require imagined characters in imagined situations
with imagined stories. We invite you, whether a seasoned professional
or beginner to come and play our games. All people have the
experience to play. We all live and love and think and feel. We all
have stories. Specific Time to be announced.

For one thing, I don't like travelling to a different city for one.
On the other hand, I've been thinking of travelling to Chicago and
doing the tourist thing, but in August?! I don't know, but I have
plenty of time to think about it.
