Ok got the computer finally back up (issue with moving my service
and then trying to get time to setup the hardware).
Anyway, I just got the devistating news on Thursday that I've been
laid off from Fidelity (8.6 yrs with the company). I have 60 days
to find a new job. Frankly layoffs over the holidays leaves me PO'd
beyond belief as it is so disrespectful to loyal, hardworking,
dedicated employees. 200 were hit in this round of layoffs. They
blindsided almost everyone. Where cuts were expected, none were
made.
This isn't a good time of year to be looking (it is 4th quarter and
many reqs get frozen or pulled, plus hiring mgrs often go on
vacation around this time). To top it off, Monday is my
birthday...how can I celebrate at a time like this?
My issue is simple, I was terminated because I was last one on the
team and I apparenly make more than my peers (being the only Sr. is
pretty much telling me that). And my boss got laid off too. The
group is brand new and I'm the only one with the skills they
need...but it all comes down to the dollars. They tell me it is
because they are eliminating redundant jobs due to the recent
reorganization. That may be true, but last in first out and my
salary also played a part and they can't kid me on that. It is
ironic because I've always been the lowest paid on my teams. The
one time I'm not and I'm out.
So keep your fingers crossed for me that I find something before the
end of the year.
Also say a little prayer for my baby nephew Declan, he has a heart
murmur and we're hoping he grows out of it. He's being checked
regularly and so far things are ok but we need to see what happens
over the next several months.
Cheers gang,
Jo-el
