To understand why Dean is married you have to go back to the earlier
seasons of Gilmore Girls and understand how the Rory-Dean situation began and developed. I can tell you that when Luke's nephew Jess came to Stars Hollow that's when trouble started and they then broke up and soon he was with Lindsey who Dean married but I think that maybe that was the proposal meant for Rory.
