What is it with Japanese movies and trains? I don't think I've seen one
Japanese movie (including anime) set in the Meiji Restoration period or
later that didn't have a train (or the sound of a train) in it. (Best
example of the sound-of-a-train-only movie: "Rampo"--it's deliberately
placed, not a 1990's train sound, but something from the 1930's.)
Two questions:
1. Have you ever seen an exception to the above?
2. What would be a corresponding sine qua non for movies set before the
Meiji Restoration period? It has to be more or less a background thing.
Hairstyles and clothing don't count.

Menopause... you've heard of naturally occurring endorphins, right?
Menopause is endogenous amphetamine... 'tain't purdy when she comes
down. I used to make fun of people the age I am now, when I was 40
years younger. I try to keep that in mind, but my memory is... huh,
what?
