I just lucked into a huge pile of J-vid (Nihongo dake). For starters I looked at
"Shigatsu Monogatari." That was easy enough to find online. I don't need the
subtitles based on what I read online after I saw the movie. I got about 7% of
the
language and 95% of the plotline. Those who recommended "Swallotail" and other
Iwai works, if you know "Shigatsu Monogatari," how would you compare it to the
others?

Three other titles are little more mysterious:

"Sharaku," I'm guessing, is about the ukiyo-e artist, but I'll get back to you
after I've
watched it.

"Shichinin Misaki" gets several google hits, and they all seem to be pointing to
an
anime, which would surprise me, since the previous owner was an elderly Nisei-
kibei, but I'll withhold judgment and get back to you.

The last appears to be a Jidaigeki series. I'm not sure which yomi the kanji are
supposed to be, so my guess is "Hachi Hinoto Hori no Shichinin." I'll retype it
in
Japanese in the next paragraph (message character code Unicode UTF-8). so if you
can't read Japanese on your machine, it may come up as gibberish. If you
recognize
this series tell me what to look for, because with these yomi it isn't showing
up in
google.

Depending on how the storage and cataloguing of all this vid goes, I may be
offering some or all of it for sale, the proceeds of which will go to the
Buddhist
Temple of Chicago's building fund.

thanks

mimi

... I wonder if this group is alive or dead. Hallloooo! ... It's not an anime. It's really cheesey TV jidaigeki, ridiculously violent, barely watchable. ... ...
