Jackie Forced to take a 60 day rest 3/18/02   Message List

Days ago when Jackie Chan flew to Thailand for a Korean product
commercial, Thailand tourist bureau officials invited him to dinner.
Apparently when Jackie Chan led Emperor production Highbinders to
shoot in Thailand, the nation's tourist bureau felt honored because
Jackie Chan hired several dozen Thai workers for his crew and
respected local culture, people and holidays.

During dinner, many officials even tried to convince Jackie Chan to
immigrate to Thailand. As soon as he agrees, he would receive a
beautiful small island for him to develop at will. He would also
receive any identification he wants. Jackie Chan was rather excited
about the opportunity of becoming the master of an island because
when his father visited him in Thailand he honestly said that he
would like to live in Thailand. Unfortunately in recent years Jackie
Chan has been all over the world for work and did not have to settle
down, so he could only thank the officials for their offers. He joked
that later when he is ready to retire, Thailand is one of his
favorite locations. Whether he would become the master of an island
he would have to wait and see. After his injury in Thailand, Jackie
Chan has also become the victim of foreign insurance companies.
Several foreign insurance companies has teamed up against Shanghai
Knights, which would begin production March 18 in Prague. They have
ordered that Jackie Chan during the production must have 60 days of
rest, otherwise insurance companies would all cancel their coverage
so the movie could not begin production. The order puts Jackie Chan
in an awkward position. Although for insurance companies business is
business, and the order for Jackie Chan to get plenty of rest is
aimed at avoiding any injury that would slow down production, but
Jackie Chan has been risking his life for years and has never rested
60 days for a movie.

Jackie Chan said that with two months off, he has enough time to make
a movie for Lam Kin Ngok's Media Asia and feels that a two month rest
would be too much a waste of time. Jackie Chan has already ordered
Willie Chan Chi Keung to fight the order because now right every
second is precious. This year he has to work overseas all year and
his schedule could not be tighter. Jackie Chan sighed that since Hong
Kong insurance companies refused to cover him, he could only head to
Prague and go from there.
