Searching Sex Offenders

Well, I knew it was true but that was only by dint of logic, and not with any hard facts. New York City's Administration for Children's Services located their Children's Center right smack dab next to a building that is loaded with male sex offenders.

I was one case worker who was very upset about that move for that reason and for several other reasons too and so prior to the move I had the balls to email virtually every State and Local elected official in or from New York City with my several objections to the move. Actually the move got stalled for a few months (I think that's partly what I've been paid back for of late).

Now, you might shrug when I tell you that they put a shelter for kids that have been rescued from abusive or negligent parents, or who were placed outside their homes because their parents had petitioned Family Court that these particular kids were out of control and beyond parental authority. That's why I am going to draw you a word picture.

These children are not locked into the building. They can and some do leave whenever they so feel like doing. Also many of them once they run away from foster care placements and find that life is too hard wander back to the Children's Center on their own steam. The Center is a good two thirds of a mile or so from the nearest subway stop. For an example, and not an unheard of example, a run away foster child who gets tossed out of her friend's home or the crash pad of an adult male who is not satisfied with services rendered by said friend's mother or said dissatisfied male in the middle of the night often will decide to make the journey back to the Children's Center herself.

Now, this building loaded with sex offenders is a shelter that houses unattached unemployed just out of jail or the mental ward men. In the pre dawn hours one will find some of them wandering the area, and nothing prevents this nor can prevent it as this facility is not a lock up, and in fact the most disruptive of these men may be put out onto the street by the authorities themselves.

The Children's Center is at 492 First Avenue NYC NY 10016 and the Men's Shelter is at 400 East 30 th Street, like I told you, and told everyone who ought to be concerned, right next door to this building filled with sex offenders. We're talking six years now that this men's shelter was supposedly going to be relocated.
