Re: Verification of Bergman quote
Well, I'm not quite sure. I think it was in an interview with Oriana
Fallaci. Miss Fallaci met Ingrid Bergman for at least two interviews.
The last one was in Los Angeles, in 1967, when Ingrid was rehearsing
O'Neill's "More Stately Mansions". This interview was published in
LIFE and afterwards in a book of interviews by Miss Fallaci. The
first interview took place in Paris, in November or December 1962,
when Ingrid was rehearsing "Hedda Gabler" with a French cast. That
first interview was published by some Italian magazine (I think it
was "L'Europeo" or "Epoca"). Oriana Fallaci asked Ingrid Bergman
about many topics in that interview, including success and whether
success gives you happiness or not. Miss Bergman answered: "Success
is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get" Well, I
don't know is that sentence is hers or she simply quoted it. In any
case, it is a very clever one...
Good luck with your book Professor Wang!
