But when will the restored version of JOAN OF ARC be released on DVD? I have
been awaiting that one for what...four years I think! Ibelieve it was the UCLA
film library (or some such library in L.A.)that restored the missing 45 minutes
(one-third of the film!!!) andscreened it for the public in L.A. on at least one
occasion, I thinkin 1999. But they have been sitting on it ever since, not
releasingit on DVD. Why bother restoring a film if you're not going to letthe
public see it? I bought a DVD copy of JoA from a seller inTaiwan via an eBay
auction. It was advertised as 145 minutes, evenon the box. But when I played
it, I found out it was the same gutted100 minute version that you find in the
out-of-print VHS tapes. Notthat I think that JOAN is Ingrid's best movie or
best performance;it's clearly not, even for most of her fans. But considering
howreally bad or unhistorical every Joan of Arc film is (and I own acopy of most
of them), Ingrid's JOAN is faithful to the historicalsource materials, at least
in the shortened version I have seen. ButI think it would be so much more
intelligible with the missingfootage restored, and be a better film on at least
that level. Ifsomeone on this list knows what organization restored this film
in1999, please let me know so I can email them & ask them why theyhaven't
released the film. Thanks.
