Hehe. Hey. No worries. Sometimes I too forget or
don't write unless someone writes to me first.
Especially with other things going on in life. So
that's completely understandable.
As for finding a look-a-like and replacement for
Ernest, it can work, but you have to be extremely
careful. Ernest was not only goofy, but he also had a
really big heart in all his roles. Basically he
brought his real heart into his character and as such,
it made it easy. He would never allow any pictures to
be taken of him with a cigarette because he wanted to
be a positive influence to the children, and Ernest
had become a born-again Christian. If you just find a
look-a-like and that's it, this clone may not have the
same caring quality that was put into Ernest's
character. And it will show. But if you can find
someone who not only has the same kind of goofy looks
and moves, but also can really bring out the heart and
innosense of Ernest, then I think a new generation of
children will enjoy the character we all grew up and
loved. So if whoever is doing this know what he is
doing, we can still enjoy the same quality character
as brought to us by Ernest. For us who knew the
original, it won't be quite the same, but it will
still be a pleasure and a new crowd will benefit from
this fun loving guy.
As for Ernest the Pirate, he never finished it because
he had died before it was completed. So it was hard
to tell how much they had left to film, but obviously
not enough to finish it without him. However, his
serious role was called "Daddy And Them"where Jim
Varney gave a great performance as Hazel Montgomery,
or so I've heard, and this film was released at least
a year after his passing. But it was only released to
select audiences, so I don't know if it was successful
or not.
I never did see Ernest in the Army as that was his
ninth and final film. Though I used to love his
Saturday morning kids show "Hey Vern, It's Ernest"
and I almost joined the fan club there.
A while ago, somebody possed a question about Ernest's
family. Not Jim Varney's family, but Ernest. At the
time, we had nothing but guesses. But I found out
that Ernest created a collection of shorts titled
"Your World As I See It", where Ernest is playing the
entire Worrell family tree. Does anybody have it or
has anyone ever seen it?
One more curious question. How many of you are
Christians? For those that are, I know that we find a
special pleasure in knowing that Jim Varney was a
fellow brother in Christ, as you can really see his
love put into his character.
Oh, and if you want to see a nice listing of Ernest's
different works from movies to guest hosting to cameo
appearances, I found this to be pretty good:
