Ernest grew up in rural Kentucky where he went to school and wasn't
very bright. He had a speech impediment which caused him to keep
checking with whoever he talked to to see if they understood
him....Know whut I mean? His mother was truly an avon lady and
hairdresser, but his father was an out of work coal miner. Doing odd
jobs to keep his family fed. Thats where Ernest learned how to fix
so many different things and invent so much. When you're poor, you
have to make do with what you have. But his father, always taught
Ernest to look at the bright side of things and never let anyone get
you down. How else could he keep trying to get close to Vern, an old
school friend, who once felt sorry for the academically challenged
Ernest, much to his regret all the rest of his life. He couldn't get
away from him. His father was Ralph W. Worrell and he married the
not so beautiful, but hard working Maggie McCoy, a distant cousin of
the famous McCoys. Ernest came from a family of six sibs, but
through the hardship of living in the hills, the family lost 3 of the
children in early childhood. Ernest was the youngest and therefore
was his mother's pride and father's last attempt at child rearin'.
Ernest never lost the lessons he learned about giving people more
chances when he left home to view the world. Like his father told
him, courage is fear holding on one minute longer. So, regardless of
what came his way, he would hold on the the thought that there was
good in all of us. Even when he was down on himself, he could always
summons the strength to have faith in his fellow man, which gave him
the courage to regain faith in himself. His family was devoted
church goers and he was forced to go to church every Sunday, learning
the discipline to continue when things get tough and turn the other
cheek. Know whut I mean?..........

electrician, then that would explain Ernest's love of gadgets and
fixing things. His mom would have been a part time hairdresser and
Avon Lady, and perhaps worked at the carnival during the summer,
selling tickets, Of course, Ernest would get in for free, and that's
where he learned to imitate all sorts of people. He is a true people
pleaser and has a pure heart. He is the eternal optimist, I guess
that's why Ernest is my favorite character.
