From the CML list this warning about Yahoo Groups,
If you belong to ANY Yahoo Groups, be aware that Yahoo is now using
something they call "Web Beacons" to track every member of every Yahoo
group. Web Beacons are similar to cookies, but allows Yahoo to record
every website and every group you visit, even when you're not connected
to Yahoo.
Look at their updated privacy statement at
http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy
About half-way down the page, in the section on cookies, you will see a
link that says WEB BEACONS. Click on the phrase "Web Beacons." On the
page that opens, find a paragraph entitled "Outside the Yahoo Network."
In that section find a little "Click Here to Opt Out" link that will
let you opt out of their snooping. Be careful! NOT to click on the
next button shown. It is an "Opt Back In" button that, if clicked, will
UNDO the opt out.
Note that Yahoo's invasion of your privacy– and your ability to get
out of it – is NOT user specific. It is MACHINE specific. That means
you will have to go through this same process on every computer (and
browser) you use.
From Yahoo
Web pages may contain an electronic file called a web beacon, that allows a web
site to
count users who have visited that page or to access certain cookies. Yahoo! uses
web
beacons in the following ways:
From the Yahoo! Network explanation
Yahoo! uses web beacons within the Yahoo! network of web sites in order to count
users
and to recognize users by accessing Yahoo! cookies.
Being able to access Yahoo! cookies allows us to personalize your experience
when you
visit Yahoo! web sites that are located both on and off of the yahoo.com domain.
For
example, Yahoo! GeoCities pages are mostly located on the geocities.com domain.
Outside the Yahoo! Network
Yahoo! uses web beacons to conduct research on behalf of certain partners on
their web
sites and also for auditing purposes.
Information recorded through these web beacons is used to report aggregate
information
about Yahoo! users to our partners. This aggregate information may include
demographic
and usage information. No personally identifiable information about you is
shared with
partners from this research.
When conducting research Yahoo!'s practice is to require our partners to
disclose the
presence of these web beacons on their pages in their privacy policies and state
what
choices are available to users regarding the collection and use of this
information. You
may choose to opt-out of Yahoo! using this information for this research. Please
to opt-out.
Note: This opt-out applies to a specific browser rather than a specific user.
Therefore you
will have to opt-out separately from each computer or browser that you use.
If you have to leave the group because of this then I understand.
I really am against this policy.

Hello.
I work in a video department for a major medical facility in the United States.
We're
planning on buying an HD camera in 2006. We've gotten demonstrations from Sony
and
Panasonic and have taken their cameras out into the field and shot with the
CineAlta,
Vericam and Sonys mid-range camera (the name escapes me).
I was wondering if anyone on the list has feedback on the cameras, decks,
formats, etc?
We are leaning to the Vericam, but I want to make sure we've covered all our
bases before
we spend all that money!
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Regards,
Rick Andresen

Dear Jagan,
although far from you we have at least 5 years in experience
doing digital movies and transfering them to film for theater
release.
We have done all kind of combinations already(35mm->digital->film;
16mm->digital->film; video->film; HDcam->film; Varicam->film;
Viper->film; HDV->film).
We do full post production and we do print to intermediate
material directly from digital.
The question you raise depend on the budget you have to spend.
For a quick response I can suggest in order of quality (from
lower to high) and in order of budget (from low to high,
considering you want to get back to film.
One of the main points when going back to film is the frame
rate. If you consider real 24f shooters then your choices are
instantly minimized for a couple of cameras:
1- (SDTV) DV camera - Panasonic AG-DVX100A
2- (SDTV) DVCPRO 50 - Panasonic AJ- SDX900
3- (HDV) HDV Camera - SONY HDR-FX1**
4- (HDTV) Varicam Panasonic AJ-HDC27F
5- (HDTV) Sony CineAlta HDcam HDW-F900
6- (HDTV) Panavision HD-900F
7- (HDTV) Sony CineAlta HDcamSR HDW-F950
8- (Data) Thomsom Viper FilmStream
8- (Data) Arriflex D-20
8- (Data) Panavision Genesis
** Although the HDR does not do a real progressive 24
it will still have more detail information that the SDTV cameras
The Data cameras are all new, hard to find and still expensives
for rental or buying. Some claim are better than others and lots
of tech speaking specifications but if you have budget go ahead
and try them.
Maybe I am forgeting somebody somewhere but as I said before this
is intended to be quick....
Best Regards and good luck!

this is jagan here first thanks for the reply. Let me tell you about myself I am a cinematographer in Mumbai. I am basically film cameraman although I have done lost Television work when it comes to cinema it is different. In India still we have very limited digital screens. If one has to release a film it has to be in film formate so my first question is If I shoot a feature film on HD formate how will be the result finally when it is transfered to film (post production in India). Second question is about the camera which is the best camera because I am new to HD. There are so many cameras which one to choose from them is the main question. Please if you could help me in this regard I will be greatful to you.
I am planing series of films on psychology (human psychology towards life) all are in feture film formate. Including child psychology. Right now I had written two films one on children and the other on adults on the capacity of human brain. What it can do and so on.
I am waiting for your reply once again thanks for ypur reply.

We are only accepting DVD's at this time, no
other format will be considered. Please insure that your film is mastered
as a DVD and NOT as a VCD, they are very similar.
"True HD" may not be such a meaningful term going forward--sounds a lot
like "Broadcast Quality" which has been meaningless gibberish even longer
than the buzzword "Digital".
HDV can be 1080i, as with the Sony HVR-Z1U.
There are many obvious advantages to shooting with larger professional HD
cameras from Panasonic and Sony, inc. broad choices of lenses--zooms and
primes, more robust tape formats, multicam switched capabilities, more
choices of "looks", etc. etc. But when the choice comes down to economics,
$5000 will work in a lot more situations than $50,000 --100,000. The
economic advantage is overwhelming, and will be a huge factor going forward.
It's only a matter of time before HDNET or similar distribution channels
will accept projects shot on HDV, IF THE CONTENT IS STRONG, and the
production is done carefully, and perhaps transferred to HDCAM or whatever
for delivery.
For several years after the advent of DV, DVC Pro and DVCAM, most
professionals assumed it would only be used in narrow niches and never
replace the likes of Betacam and Digital Betacam. But it has.

I suggest shooting in True HD (1080i format) as
opposed to using the HDV. I have used the HDV and they
do poor in low lighting, high movement, quick zooms,
and quick pans! HDNet (www.hd.net) only accepts
programming shot in TRUE HD their format is the 1080i,
you may try that.

I'm getting involved in a fairly large 3 day production and we're
weighing the costs/benefits to shooting in True HD or using HDV.
The first use of the content will be online distribution so it will
obviously be compressed.
We would like to use the assets to produce some specials for HD
broadcast and wonder if networks are only airing programming shot in
TRUE HD.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
