When I started this forum back in 1999 this was the only place to discuss HDTV
Production
on the web.
A lot has changed since then.
There are now small HD Cameras and Digital Cinema cameras up to 5K. When this
forum
started the was only the Sony 700 series HDCAM and no CineAlta (The 900 was
introduced
shortly thereafter), Viper, Red, Varicam, D20, Genesis, Silicon Imaging.
Screening Digital Cinema has become more prevelent and DI has become the norm.
DLP Cinema was just beginning
Please add what you think will be the future of Cinema.
Here is my original post from 1999.
This is the place for all to discuss the new
medium be it any one of the 18 plus HD formats.
Production and postproduction techniques are the primary aim
of this club as well as Digital Cinema and
broadcast.
Thank you,
Mark Forman
Mark Forman

Is Digital Cinema Here?
See for yourself how Hollywood is
changing.

You may have heard about digital projection last
summer when theaters in New York and Los Angeles used it
for screenings of "Star Wars: Episode One."
You
may have read one of Roger Ebert's columns debating
film versus digital projection in one of his Sunday
columns.

Texas Instrument's DLP Cinema projection
technology
has been installed at various theaters
accross the US. You can see digital showings of first run
movies there. The system will be staying there for an
extended period. This is not a couple of week
demonstration!

DLP Cinema projection technology is the version
of
TI's Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology
specifically
developed in collaboration with the movie industry to
meet
the exacting image quality demands of theatrical
exhibitions
of first run movies. So see for yourself: is digital
projection
as good as film? Better than film? Are the days of
scratchy
prints and out of focus projection gone at
last?

For more detailed information on the technology, I

I got the bulletin on the Sony 24P camera the
other day as I plan to upgrade to that when available.
Sony says it is multiformat 24, 25, 30 progressive and
50/60 interlace. Does anyone know how it is switchable?
Will it be field switchable or will seperate cards be
required to make the change.? Ian Ellis
We have come a long way.
