Adil,
"Taxi Driver" is another modern classic from the trio of
Scorsese, De Niro, and Keitel. More a De Niro/Scorsese movie than a
Keitel movie, although he does make the most of his brief screen
time. It was the total antithesis of "Death Wish" -type movies of
that time, and showed the vigilante as being as screwed up as any of
his scumbag victims. It also was a truly defining moment in De Niro's
career as an actor. It's often disturbing look at lonliness and
despair amongst all that urban decay really rang true back in that
disenchanted post-Watergate era, where no one really believed in
heroes anymore... only anti-heroes. A great film.
As for some other titles, try (as I said before) "Fingers". It's a
gritty 1978 film with Keitel in one of his greatest performances as a
debt collector who'd rather be a concert pianist. Also, if you
haven't seen them, see of course the Tarantino films with
Keitel, "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction". They're both great.
Another peak was Jane Campion's 1993 "The Piano", an erotic
masterpiece.
Of a more acqiured taste, I suppose, I also liked Spike
Lee's "Clockers", a 1995 vastly underrated cop drama. There's Ridley
Scott's 1977 "The Duellists", Martin Scorsese's "The Last Temptation
of Christ", and Wayne Wang's 1995 "Smoke", which Keitel is superb in.
That should get you started, but there are many others...

I have yet to see them play it on cable. I doubt that they will ever
show it on cable because of the touchy subjects of racism and the
corrupt union. By the way, does anybody have any comments on Taxi
Driver?(where Keitel had a role as the pimp). Also, if anybody could
give me some more Keitel films that are worth watching, I'd
appreciate it.
