Well, I saw the newly released director's cut of "Cop Land" last
night. This is well worth checking out. It plays almost as a
completely different movie. The characters are far more fleshed out
(there's even a couple added ), and the movie is far less clear cut
as to who's good and bad. Keitel and De Niro both have more screen
time than they did originally, and the soundtrack and ending of the
film are totally different. There are also two deleted scenes on the
disc that weren't put back into the film but, when viewed, add even
MORE complexity to the characters. There's a lot more to do with the
racism of the whole town (including Stallone!), and some characters
seem more sympathetic, some seem less so. This is a far superior cut
of the film than was originally released back in '97, and well worth
a second look.
