Re: [Harvey Keitel Fans] Re: Long time away....

A few comments on Bad Liuetenant

I agree with everything you guys are saying, but at the same time, Ferrara
and Keitel had to portray a man so dehumanized and alienated from his
surroundings. I think the scenes where we see Harvey humping hookers and
getting high compliment the tone of the movie perfectly. The important thing to
remember is that Bad Liuetenant is not merely a movie that shows a bad person
doing bad things but a story of redemption. By the way I recently saw Keitel's
other films: Blue Collar and Mean streets.

---Hi snoak09- I have just been reading your thoughts on 'Bad
Lieutenant and some time ago I was villified on this site by other
fans who disagree with anyone who dares question the integrity of
this film. I have the highest regard for HK- think he is one of the
best actors BUT watching some scenes in this particular film make me
squirm. I don't see why great actors should be entitled to explore
their inner demons and torments on screen as though this
was 'entertaining'.I don't enjoy watching my favourite actor
masturbating. And I couldn't even begin to imagine how I'd feel, if
he was my father. Sorry to go on but this film really makes me angry!
I also got fed up with his personal life - imagine a guy like him
disputing the payments for Baby Potter. Not the great guy I thought
he was but I guess none of us are perfect. I sincerely hope he finds
married bliss with Daphna and wish them both much happiness. Bye for
now. Popkins

Adil, "Taxi Driver" is another modern classic from the trio of Scorsese, De Niro, and Keitel. More a De Niro/Scorsese movie than a Keitel movie, although he...

Oh, I think there is that guilt in "Mean Streets". It's handled differently than in "Bad Lt.". In "LT.", the guilt is far more overt, where as in "Streets",...
