For those of you who may not be on the George Peppard Unofficial Club
grouplist, thought I ought to pass this on. Thanks to "Wolcott" for
bringing it to everyone's attention!!
Anyone in New York who can get to it should try. It's a great
movie! I think I have either a 16mm or a 35mm print of it in my film
vault on George...

take care.

Calling all diehard George Peppard fans!

The extremely rare "House of Cards," one of George's finest films,
starring the astonishing Orson Welles and the lovely Inger Stevens,
is being screened with a new print, next Wednesday, at NYC's Film
Forum on Tuesday, March 23. Screening and contact information is
below.

This film is one of the finest thrillers of the Sixties. Its theme--
the rise of the neo-fascism in France as a result of the carnage of
French Algeria--is fascinating. This is a film to place
alongside "The Battle of Algiers" and "The Day of the Jackal." Few
people recall how the terrorist French Secret Army (OAS) almost
overthrew DeGaulle in the early Sixties--with the help of fascist
generals in Algeria, they were going to parachute troops into Paris
from Algeria and seize France the way Caesar seized Rome in crossing
the Rubicon!

Watching this movie is like seeing "Goldfinger" or "Thunderball" for
the first time--but the film's political message makes even more
striking.

You haven't lived till you've seen George do his offhanded,
dismissive "Sieg heil," ridiculing the pompous neo-fascists! In this
role, George reminds us what a great hipster Sixties good guy he was,
always fighting on the side of political democracy and individual
liberty.

See you at the screening! I intend to bring as many friends as
possible.

Best regards,

Wolcott

(a diehard George Peppard fan since 1965)
