"Ms. Red, report!" Mr. Black demanded of the static covered woman on the VidComm.
"Sir ... Assault ... Badly ... Key has ... Powers ... Electro ... Pulse..."
"Enough! Abort and return to base," he slammed the VidComm down, smashing the screen.
"You need to control your anger," Mr. Shadow said as he stepped out into the light cast from the desk lamp.
"Yeah, yeah, I know... We need to get The Key," Mr. Black said standing up and walking to the window.
"She's access to her powers, that is not going to be easy," Mr. Shadow moved to stand beside his colleague.
"You have the power to stop her in her tracks, yet you hide here, refusing to go out into the field..."
"Do not push me vampire, you'll regret it," in a burst of light, Mr. Shadow vanished.

Dawn wasn't sure what had happened, one second the car had been moving along fine, then had come the swerving and the explosion.
Then...
What?
Dawn knew there had been a fight but she had no idea what, exactly, had happened. Now she was standing in the middle of the road, with three ruined vehicles and over two dozen dead bodies surrounding her.
Run, it was the only thing she could think of.
So she did, taking off at a run she headed towards the hills to the left of the road.

"King?" Bob was back on the VidPhone to the Watcher, "Her car was hit, it was a precision strike, but something happened... They're all dead, her escorts, her would be captors..."
"Really?" King raised an eyebrow, a curious look on his face.
"There's something else... There was an electromagnetic pulse set off there, no-one knows the exact source, but it's got the military, the FBI, the NSA and the CIA all on alert."
"An EMP?" the other man asked, moving into the VidPhone's camera range.
"Yeah... Who are you?"
"Someone who knows a hell of a lot more about what's going on than you," he snapped, "How much to they know?"
Bob smiled, "Not much, typical governmental bureaucracy."
The man scowled, "I doubt that, I doubt that a lot."
King took control of the call again, "Thanks Bob, keep me informed can you?"
"Sure thing, but you should know, the feds are on their way, I heard they're planning to take over this operation."
King scowled, "I see, thanks," he stabbed the off button.
The other man stood up and walked away from the VidPhone table, "Damn, if they're on their way, then so is she..."
"She?"
"General Alyson Gellar, member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff."
"That doesn't really mean a lot to me."
"She's followed me and... Him for as long as she's been in the military, she found out about Dawn about a decade ago, and it changed her, she went mad, ask the Council, she approached them for their records on her."
"I remember the incident, I was never told who, but I know someone with some clout approached them, they turned her down flat if I remember rightly."
"Yeah, they did, and she came after me, that's why I had to change my name, and go underground."
"Why didn't she go after Mr. Black?" King asked looking over at the other man.
"Are you kidding? With the full backing of Wolfram and Hart behind him? He's untouchable."
"I thought as much," King looked thoughtful, "What about sending in Akira?"
The other man looked thoughtful, "Yes... Yes that might help, send her after Dawn directly, I... Have some things I need to do."
As King turned back to the VidPhone the other man headed towards the door.

"You want me to go find her?" Akira was stunned at the request her Watcher had just made.
"Yes, we need her found and brought back here, as soon as possible."
"Okay, but you'll need to get me out of my last class."
"It's done, you have a doctors appointment scheduled for 3:40, the school has been notified."
"Thanks," Akira hit the off button on the portable VidPhone. Great now she was having to chase down burglars.
"Well, first I need to change," Akira said to herself, looking down at the long black pencil skirt she was wearing.
Heading back to her room muttering to herself, she completely failed to notice a man standing in the shadows watching her closely.
"Yeah, a pencil skirt is not exactly patrolling clothing," the man said to himself under his breath.

"General?"
"Get my car, now, we're going to Sunnydale."
"Sunnydale Sir?"
"Little town down the coast, it's where The Key is."
General Alyson Gellar's aide resisted the urge to roll his eyes, the General had been on about this 'Key' thing for the past year, as if it were the Holy Grail or something, mind you, for all he knew maybe it was.
"I will have that damned girl, she'd the missing link, the one thing I need to make my life have meaning," Gellar muttered, a crazed look in her green eyes.
Her aide moved off, leaving the General to her muttering.
"But Mr. Black must know too... It was probably him that set the extraction team to take her from police custody... Typical bungling, never send lawyers to do the army's job..."
A man stepped out of the shadows, and moved towards the General's desk, "He did order the hit, you're right about that, and now you have to get to her before he does."
Gellar turned to face him, "Ahhh, always nice to get a visit from you, Mr. Shadow."

Dawn had found herself a quiet spot to settle down in, so she could get some rest, since her arrival in that room 5 hours ago, she'd had virtually no time to just sit and rest.
"Spike, where are you?" she sighed, Spike had been like a big brother to her for years after Buffy had died, doing everything a big brother should, protecting her, comforting her, coming to her rescue.
Dawn tried to remember what had happened before she'd found herself in the room.
She had been looking around her bedroom, she knew that, but why?
Gerrard, he was in the house somewhere... Spike was facing him...
Dawn's eyes snapped open, suddenly she was on full alert, there had been a sound in the bushes.
Calling on her training, Dawn melted into the bushes, camouflaging herself so no-one could see her and waited.
Seconds later, a young long brunette haired woman strode into the clearing, she appeared to have a fair amount of Asian blood in her judging from her facial features.
Dawn watched as the woman knelt down to feel the ground where Dawn had been resting a moment before, "I know you're here, I was sent to help you."
"How do I know that?" Dawn asked as she slowly emerged from her hiding place, assuming a pose ready to strike.
A third figure emerged from the bushes off to Dawn's left, "Because she's a slayer, and you're late for an appointment little bit."
Dawn turned to face him, "Spike?!?!"
To Be Continued...
Next time on Timeless: Unlimited...
