Timeless: Unlimited - Book 1 - Part 1 - The Return Of A Legend
Akira stood in the middle of her room, her hands on her hips and her long brunette hair hanging down partially hiding her face as she surveyed the damage.
Next time she'd have to remember not to do magick in her dorm room, especially if it was something as simple as turning flame into water.
"Simple? Ha! That old codger has no idea how hard this spell is," She said to herself, kicking out at a fish that was flopping past her.
There was a knock at the door, "Ra? You in there?" It was her room mate, Jeanne Watson.
"Ummm, yeah, gimme a sec, kinda not decent," Akira called out to her.
"Well, hurry up, I need to get my books!"
Akira cringed at the accusatory tone, "Let her not see, the disaster of thee, hide this mess, or I'll be dead..."
As she trailed off the room sparkled and the mess that had been caused reversed itself and the room was back to normal.
"Come in Jee," Akira called out as she moved to sit on her bed.
The door opened to reveal a frazzled looking blonde young woman. Jeanne was a fourth year student, majoring in common law, and minoring in literary research, while Akira, who was also a fourth year student, was majoring in archaeology with a minor in ancient languages.
"What took you so long??" Jeanne snapped, "Sometimes you move like it was still the 50s!"
"Well, I prefer the past you know, even if the past is only the 2350s," Akira poked her tongue out at Jeanne, who responded with a laugh.
"Sure, be the budding archaeologist, I'll be the consummate lawyer," with those words Jeanne grabbed her law books and waltzed out the door again.
Akira shook her head, she never quite knew where Jeanne was coming from.
Her thinking was interrupted by the buzzing of the VidPhone on the wall. Akira hopped up off the bed and moved over to it, "Answer."
"Greetings Akira," It was her Watcher, Maximilian King, "I think we need to resume your training."
Akira sighed, sometimes being a Slayer was a lot more trouble than it was worth, "Yeah, okay, I'll be round after class."
"You sound very unenthusiastic," King's deep baritone resonated even through the VidPhone, while is dark African features displayed their usual concern for his charge.
"Nah, I'm okay, just a bit worn out from battling Gerrard," Akira sighed again, remembering her last defeat.
King knew how she was feeling, because he was feeling it too, Gerrard was supposed to be just a regular run of the mill demon, but somewhere along the line the Watchers Council had lost some of their records on him, which given the amount of upheaval they'd had recently was understandable.
What they'd missed was that Gerrard had somehow managed to get a hold of a ton of supernatural powers that he shouldn't have had, levitation, pyrokinesis, telekinesis, and a ton of other powers, some King hadn't even found names for yet.
So in essence Gerard had kicked Akira's arse.
"I know it's hard Ra, but you need to move on, we need to work on overcoming his excessive powers," King told her gently.
"Yeah, I know, but what if he's just too powerful? You know he's out there now trying to get more powers, trying to find a way to stop the forces of good."
"Yes, I do, but we know something he doesn't."
"What?"
"That evil cannot exist without good, he'll never stop the Slayers, not if we mobilize them all..." King left his sentence hanging, knowing how Akira felt about what he'd almost suggested.
"We are not telling the Council, they'll just send in a Special Ops team and end up making a mess so huge they'll never be able to cover it up, just like they did in Rome."
"That was a one off, The Immortal was someone different to anything we'd encountered before." King knew more about the events in Rome than Akira knew, but he couldn't tell her since he was under orders not to divulge any of the events of that day.
"Bull, that's total bull and you know it!" Akira was pissed, and she had no idea why, "There are stories told, in Slayer Training, that some ensouled vampires back in the early 2000s crossed paths with The Immortal's past life."
"Those are rumors and nothing more, if there was any truth to those then sure the Watcher Council head at the time would have recorded it."
"You know about the rumors about Giles don't you? He wasn't one of the best Watchers ever you know." Akira had read in the history books about Rupert Giles, the Watcher of the Slayer who changed everything, "He was too emotionally involved with his Slayer, there's even rumors that they were having an affair!"
"That's not true, I know James Giles, and he knows more about his ancestor than you do, those rumors are just not true."
"Fine, whatever, I'll see you later," Akira stabbed at the off button, "Bloody son of a..."

Akira headed off to her Ancient Sumerian language class still in a bit of a bad mood, she'd tried another spell after signing off with King, she had to try and get the magickal experience to take on Gerrard, but she wasn't going to get anywhere if her powers kept being as unfocused as they were.
On the up side, she told herself, at least this time there were no fish... Just a small amount of semi-solid rock...
"Ah, Ms Shishido, nice of you to join us," her tutor, Rex Snyder said as she entered the lecture hall.
"Why? I'm not late today Mr. Snyder am I?"
"No, no, just after all your recent absences..." Snyder said with a smirk.
"Yeah, I'm sorry, but there's a letter in the school files that excuses me."
"Yes, so I saw," Snyder had an expression on his face that said he didn't believe a word on that letter.
Akira moved to take her seat towards the back of the lecture hall.
"Right," Snyder announced to the class, "Today, we will be covering inflections in the conversational structure of Ancient Sumerian."

King sat back in his chair, rubbing his tired eyes, he'd spent the past day trying to find out more about Gerrard and all his powers, and he'd come up with nothing.
"Of course if I had an intern like most of the other Watchers..." he said with distaste.
Watcher training methods had changed a lot since the debacle in Rome. They were now no longer left alone to train their charges, now they had to have interns, and assistants. But the Council had been taking their sweet time in assigning one or the other for King.
King knew it was because of the way he'd handled the press after the Rome incident. Like it was his fault there had been four city blocks demolished.
King got up and took the book he had finished to the library, and put it back on the shelf.
"The Perineum Codex... I wonder..." He murmured to himself as he reached for the leather-bound volume.

Akira's empty dorm room still smelt of sulphur, despite her many attempts to cover it up with air fresheners and spells.
Something Akira had never thought of was beginning to happen. The residues of her past spells were beginning to interact together. Waves of green, and red, and pink, and purple were moving towards the centre of the room. Swirling and merging, ripping a tear in the space time continuum.
With a loud crack the room split in half and a portal to gawd knows where opened and spat out a dishevelled young looking woman, with long brunette hair and blonde highlights.
Shaking her head, she sat up and looked around.
"What the hell?" Dawn asked the universe at large.
