Attn Richard Johnson, Paula Froelich, Bill Hoffman, Corynne Steindler, Marianne Garvey, New York Post Page Six and others:
I really object to the hack job perpetrated on Ms. Trachtenberg by the New York Post and Page Six on Friday morning, May 22, 2008, in the article below:
May 22, 2008 -- MICHELLE Tractenberg is just as bitchy in real life as she is on "Gossip Girl." A friend of the starlet told Page Six that when she talks about the show, "Michelle deliberately leaves out any girl cast members," like Blake Lively or Leighton Meester. Adds the source, "If you ask her about them, she just goes silent and changes the topic." Asked for comment, Tractenberg's publicist, Jessica Kolstad, said, "I don't know how you live with yourself."
The Post and Page Six owe Ms. Trachtenberg an apology specifically for calling her a bitch -- the term bitch is not a term of endearment -- apparently the Page Six writers believe it is the cool and in thing to call a woman -- many women would be appalled -- I am a heterosexual male and I think it is the worst word someone can call another woman -- even if it is a man or woman using the term.
It is a cruel term to demean a woman.
Not only this, it is a poor excuse for journalism (a term used in the loosest sense here) and a shortcut to intelligent thought.
I also believe that the perpetrators of the heinous act are unable to distinguish between the actress and the part she played on Gossip Girl, which leaves me to believe they are unhinged in some manner.
Michelle Trachtenberg has had a long and distinguished acting career for a young woman who is all of 22 years old.
The Post and Page Six also owe the fans of Ms. Trachtenberg an apology.
Sincerely yours,
