Friends of Liu Ye is a fan club of Liu Ye, China's most promising and talented young actor. With his outstanding and award-winning performances in Lan Yu, Foliage, and other movies, TV series and stage plays, Liu Ye has earned himself the top spot among Chinese actors of his generation.
Beginning his movie career when he was just a 20 year old student majoring in performing arts at the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing, Liu Ye’s talents in acting was apparent right from the start. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as a young postman in his very first movie, Postmen in the Mountains, at China’s Golden Rooster Awards in 1999. Shortly after his graduation, Liu Ye won Best Actor at Taiwan’s 38th Golden Horse Awards for his bold and splendid performance as a gentle, sensitive homosexual in the movie Lan Yu in 2001. Three years later, he clinched Best Actor with his role in the movie Foliage at the 24th Golden Rooster Awards. Liu Ye has not only convinced the audience, but also well-established international directors, of his remarkable acting skills.
Liu Ye stars as Crown Prince Wan in Zhang Yimou’s latest movie Curse of the Golden Flower, which was released globally in late Dec 2006. His portrayal of a weakling with an illicit relationship with his step-mother was so realistic that it left audience and film critics overwhelmed, and full of praise of his performance.
Liu Ye’s first Hollywood movie “Dark Matter”, inspired by a true story in the early 1990's, is expected to be released in spring, 2008. In this award winning movie, Liu Ye stars as the brilliant Ph.D. student Liu Xing from China. With the renowned Hollywood actress Meryl Streep acting (acts as a university patron who was fascinated by and cared about him) and actor Aidan Quinn (acts as his professor) as his co-stars, we can expect a remarkable performance of the trio.
