Hi Laura Price
Just would like to comment on your fan fiction `The Fourth Fugitive'.
I must say that I was not really impressed with it; the first half
seemed promising, then you had to ruin it with sexual references and
romance. It was a really turn-off, and wasn't really necessary (the
sexual reference, B___ J___, please consider the readership when
constructing a story, you don't know who will be reading it).
There wasn't really a story with that much imagination, (good but...)
I was disappointed. Having said that, I have read a lot of fan
fiction and only a few I would deem excellent, while the rest were
quite good in the imagination department, while only two that I
really dislike and one was really boring.
Yours is on the whole quite good but it needs more work on it, I
don't know how long you've worked on it, but to me it seemed rushed
with no real thought put in.
Now there are two points I would like to point out within your story,
first when Kate stated that she left earth in 2010. This of course
was impossible since the nuclear war happened in 2006, so it is
assumed that ANSA/NASA could not launch any ships as Cape Kennedy
would be targeted by perhaps non-nuclear missiles for obvious
reasons. So Laura your timeline is wrong on that point; secondly, and
this can be debated you mentioned Jones first name as Jack, which is
your choice, but if you had bothered to look at my `Character Bio's'
and my `POTA Timeline' which is in the files section, you would
realise that Jones first name is Stephen.
Now I don't want to toot my own horn here, but there is one general
problem, it seems to me that in order for POTA's fan fiction to be
credible within the ape mythos, there must be-in this case `Writer
Information' about the main characters in the POTA TV series. This
end I have tried to put together the `Character Bio's' and the `POTA
Timeline for all to use so that future fan fiction can be uniformed
as far as information is concerned.
It's nice to write about Virdon, Burke and Galen and their adventures
but if we as fan fiction writers don't stick to certain facts then
the whole story becomes useless. One case in point is that I read a
story where Burke had 3 older brothers, but as you know, in actual
fact, he has only 2 sisters; either the author didn't know this or
totally disregarded this information.
So al in all what I'm trying to say is that there must be information
available about the characters so there won't be any stuff-ups.
Thence my contribution of `Character Bio's' and my Timeline.
There must be uniformity in POTA fan fiction writing, if we are to
make the world of POTA's real to the fans.
If we don't imagination not withstanding, then how can we make POTA's
credible in it's readership?
Regards.
Peter.
