In early July, the indie flick "Flakes" will be released on DVD. No
word yet on special features, although it will be formatted for
widescreen. I had the opportunity to see the movie, and I was
surprised at how original it was. An added bonus is that the movie
was filmed in New Orleans pre-Katrina and is able to capture the
vibrant colours and atmosphere of the French Quarter. In the movie,
Christopher Lloyd has an amusing supporting role as Willie, the owner
of a cafe that only serves cereal (including rare, vintage cereals)
who gets caught in the crossfire of a lovers' quarrel and a competing
yuppie cereal bar that rips off his concept. Lloyd captures the
stoner persona and has a couple inspired moments, and I recommend
checking out the film. Not the best movie in the world, but a fairly
decent indie romantic comedy with a dose of originality.
