Found this in the New York Post (regarding Clubhouse):
April 8, 2004 -- We know a sure hit when we see one. There is a new
book being written by former Yankee Batboy Matthew McGough,
tentatively titled "Batboy: True Life Adventures Coming of Age With
the New York Yankees." It will be published by Doubleday for Opening
Day, 2005. The book will be a memoir about the experiences working as
a Yankee batboy in the early '90s, including winding up with a
player's car for the weekend. But that's only part of the story.
The book is being turned into a TV show called "Clubhouse" and the
pilot was just completed. There are some big hitters putting it
together. The show is being produced by Spelling Television (Spelling
being Aaron Spelling) and Icon Productions, Mel Gibson's production
company. Mel has a Passion for baseball, too. Former Yankee batboys
McGough and John Blundell are consultants and filming was done in
Brooklyn and on the Staten Island Ferry. The one-hour comedy-drama is
based on experiences recounted in the book, but also fictionalized.
The main character is a 16-year-old boy who lands his dream job,
working as a batboy for the New York Empires - not the Yankees.
The cast includes Christopher Lloyd as the eccentric
clubhouse/equipment manager (talk about type-casting), Dean Cain as
the team captain, and Jeremy Sumpter, who starred in Universal
Pictures' live-action "Peter Pan" as the lead. The pilot is directed
by Gavin O'Connor, who directed the big Olympic hockey hit "Miracle."
CBS will announce its fall lineup in mid-May. We look for "Clubhouse"
to be in the leadoff spot.
