I have wondered the same thing. Jeff seemed to really like Jo and it didnt'
seem in his character to leave and not ever come back to her.
Yes, it is such a brilliant film, and being American, I am aware of how a story
like Delaney's would never have been made into a film in the US in the early
60's. A film showing a white girl and black boy kissing or a pregnant teen
talking about how she didn't want to breast feed... those things would have been
censored and most likely only shown (if at all) in arthouse theatres in New York
and Los Angeles. This film, as far as I know, is not available on DVD and the
video has long been out of print in the US. My copy is very old and I paid a
lot for it!
I was a big big Smiths fan in the early 80s and knew all about this film due to
Morrissey's interviews and stealing from the dialog for song lyrics. I went to
Manchester in 1984 and 1986 only because I wanted to see the hometown of the
Smiths, (and a lot of other bands from that time).

Subject: taste of honey

Hi
I just saw "taste of Honey" again but this time on the big screen. Its a
brilliant social documentary and even now still leaves the same impact.
I wonder if Shelagh Delaney ever thought about writing a follow up to it, about
Jo and her baby a few years after, the problems having and being a mix-raced
child. It would have been good to see if Jeff entered her life again.
