Hi everyone,
I've just had my first look at the new DVD of "Mysteries", a 1978
film in which Rita plays a poverty-stricken woman with white hair
(she wore a white wig). (Rita made few films during the late 70s,
and some people thought that she would retire from acting.)
The DVD was released by a B-list DVD company ('New Star
Entertainment'), and it shows. They didn't bother to remaster the
DVD from the original film negatives, so the quality is barely better
than a videotape. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have this film on
DVD, but it could have been so much better.
I mentioned the new DVD to Rita, and she wrote,
"What a shame about the 'Mysteries' DVD. The cinematographer was
Robby Muller who did a brilliant job, I have only seen it once and
still have many of the images in my mind. The location was the Isle
Of Man, a strange but perfect location. I enjoyed the white wig it
gave the character a mystery which is always useful, if in doubt don
a wig - joking - I could never retire from acting I love it too
much, I was at that time spending a lot of time in Toronto and
wanting to be at home for Aisha who was at school there so I would
try to fit in work during her school holidays.
I heard that Dora Bryan is now in a retirement home with her husband,
I am so glad that this has happened as I was very worried about the
conditions that she was living in but could not get involved, now
they will have all the care and attention that they need.
Summer has arrived this week which has put a smile on a few peoples
faces, the temperature is cool compared to yours but we are grateful
for small mercies. We have just had a long weekend so I can't be too
greedy, Brighton had beautiful weather this weekend.
Love, Rita"
