Believe it or not, I'd not seen "Dr. Zhivago" until this weekend.
Quite overpowering to see my cinema heroes, Rita, Tom Courtenay, Julie
Christie and Alec Guinness, sharing screen time in 1965. Makes me
wince at what passes for "stars" these days. I know that sounds a bit
cranky, but so be it. Rita, of course, used ever so judiciously
in "Zhivago", is just as endearing as ever. David Lean certainly
picked the right actress for the part of a scared, intimidated and
probably confused waif of a girl, and she pulls it off just right. As
usual, you can't take your eyes off her.
