SOPHIE SCHOLL-THE FINAL DAYS is a superb movie that tells the story of
the last six days of one of Germany's most outspoken activist against
the 1943 Nazi regime. The film DRAWS YOU IN by an internationally
award winning performance by Julia Jentsch – an outstanding German
actress. Almost every reviewer loved this powerful film.
The academy award winning foreign film TSOTSI is a provocative look at
life in the ghettos outside present-day Johannesburg. It is a story
of a young gangster who looks at his life and tries to find out if he
has gone TO FAR TO TURN BACK. Few reviewers could revile this highly
acclaimed film. The acting and dark directing style were both highly
noted.
The grotesque THE HILLS HAVE EYES is one of the better horror films to
come out this year, but is still considered by most to be POOR. The
usual severed limbs are intermingled with what some might consider a
social commentary, but all in all it's still about very loud noises
and people getting killed by the dwellers of an abandoned southwest
nuclear testing ground.
The very disappointing LIBERTINE is a victim of HORRIBLE DIRECTING.
Johnny Depp is devoid of his characteristic charm in this piece about
debauchery in 1678 London. Even those who like Depp and John
Malkovich found little enjoyment in this film.
