Yesterday, on a boring Sunday afternoon I had a friend's two little boys to take
care of
while the parents were busy upgrading their new apartment.
Both boys, one seven years old and his older brother, just turned 12, had never
had the experience of seeing the original K.K. their only exposure to K.K. was
Jackson's
"King Kong" 2005.
Out of desperation of tending to the two little munckins, I put in the colorized
Turner VHS
version and simply explained that this was the original K.K. granddaddy of 'em
all!
They sat mesmerized. All of a sudden without warning they both started to
chant, "FAY
WRAY, FAY WRAY, FAY WRAY!!!" I wondered where this started since she hadn't
come on
the screen yet.
"Oh, what a pretty lady!" "King Kong loves Fay Wray."
As the movie progressed into the famous log scene, the 12 year old said, "Gee
this movie
goes a lot faster than the one we saw in the movies.....it was so-o-o long!"
"They'd still be
on the ship yaking, looking for Kong's island."
AND NOW THE PIECE D'RESISTENCE..."I THINK IT WAS MEAN OF JACKSON TO MAKE A NEW
MOVIE OF KING KONG." "HE JUST COPIED THE ORIGINAL, THAT'S ALL!!!"
I tried to explain dramatic privileges, to no avail...
"And Fay Wray is a LOT-T-T prettier than Naomi........", joined in the seven
year old. "And
screams better too!"
"Out of the mouth of babes cometh truth....." :^)
