This is difficult for me to share but if I don't do it here I never
will. In 1985 I was diagnosed with a terminal illness. An aquaintance
who knew I was a life-time admirer of Fay Wray somehow managed to get
her address and encouraged me to write. I had to overcome my
reluctance- writing directly to her seemed intrusive to me- but it
was still a wonderful opportunity and I mailed her a letter. Within a
week's time I received a lovely autographed picture and a charming
note. I'll never be able to describe how happy I was at that moment.
Since 1990 I have been in remission. 10 years have done nothing to
reduce my profound gratitude for each new day. This gratitude is
forever tied to appreciation for this extraordinary lady who has
enriched my lonely life with her movies and whose small act of
kindness made a world of difference.
