Re: [FayWray] Fay Wray's dress

Hallelujah!  My dismal fears are allayed!  Fay (and Kong) reign supreme! Thanks, Steve, and  kudos to Robert Nelson for his sharp sense of propriety!

Ahoy all,

Fear not, I am assured that the info regarding Fay's torn dress will not, repeat, will not be used to colorize the movie.  I'm told that the DVD will be similar to the recent "Citizen Kane" with lots of special features and a restored BW print of the movie.  The dress colors are only for the box art.

Feel Better? Me too.

Steve

Dear Robert,
I hate to put a damper on your expectations, but I think there is little doubt that the much awaited King Kong DVD will, in effect, be colorized. Simple marketing will dictate this chromatic outcome. Whereas we dyed-in-the-wool fans may cringe at the idea, B&W is definitely passé as far as the overwhelming majority of present day moviegoers is concerned. "Glorious Black & White", as some ads go, just doesn't make it anymore. Doré is out and "Marvel" is in.
Sympathetically yours,
Jose

Dear Steve-
I agree with Jose- light pink- except for the lacy collar which has
to be white, and the buttons which are black. VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL-
according to her biographers, her eyes are GREEN! (Can Steve Hill
please confirm this?)
Is the official American DVD finally about to happen?
Color in the artwork is fine, of course, but I hope they are not
going to do a Ted Turner and colorize the actual movie. For one
thing, if KK was meant to be in color, I'm sure the lighting would
have been different. I say leave the masterpiece conceived and
created by Merian Cooper and all those other artists exactly as it
was.
