After many delays, the 1933 Fay Wray movie "Below the Sea" finally
made it to my VCR. It's a cut above the typical early Columbia
Pictures progammer. It offers an interesting well-paced plot, a
greedy, murderous villain, a young burly tough-as-nails Ralph
Bellamy, the lovely Ms. Wray, and some nifty action scenes. Although
not on a par with the matchless adventure thriller "King Kong" from
the same year, nonetheless this one is worth a viewing.
Thanks to our webhost Steve Hill and ebay, I'm fortunate to have seen
all but 17 of Fay Wray's "talkies." How frustrating that one of
these, "Wildcat Bus" from 1940, was showing on a regional TV station
just a few days ago- a station to which I have no access.
At least it's not a lost film!
