Seeking child actor for "no-budget" short   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #176 of 387 |
I am producing and directing a very "low-budget" short film called "THE
LAST DAYS OF FRANK WHYTE." I am seeking a male actor about 12 years old,
preferably African-American, or another type who can portray an "urban"
character. The actor must also know how to ride a bicycle. (Though in a
worse-case scenario, that can be changed.)

The shoot day is scheduled for Sunday, June 13, with a rain date of
Saturday, June 26. The actor will be needed from 8:00am until about noon.

Upon casting, I would like to arrange a meeting with the actor and his
parents/guardians to go over the script and the filmmaking process, etc.,
and arrange at least one rehearsal with the cast. I will also require that
a parent or legal guardian is present on set at all times.

I feel it is necessary to let the parents know that this project contains
what would be considered "R" rated material, in terms of strong language,
violence and drug-related themes. I fully understand and respect any
parent's decision to decline the offer if the content is an issue.

The film is about a drug dealer, Frank Whyte, who seeks revenge after
partner is killed by a competitor. Frank later feels a great remorse over
the course his life has taken, and attempts to take his own life. His
attempt fails, however, and ironically, his nemesis returns and murders
Frank.

The character for which I am seeking to cast is Darnell, a twelve-year-old
boy who Frank employs to pick up shipments of drugs to bring to him.
Darnell informs Frank who killed his partner, and in exchange for the
information, he wants Frank to "show him the ropes" of drug dealing. Frank,
beginning to see the fallacy of his lifestyle, discourages Darnell, however
after Darnell persists, Frank sells him cocaine. Frank later learns that
Darnell has died of a drug overdose, which further puts Frank into his
state of remorse and depression.

If there are any further questions, please feel free to contact me either
via phone or e-mail.
