En febrero de 1992 dos españoles –Tomás Feliu y Jesús González Green- batieron numerosos récords mundiales de distancia y permanencia marcando un hito en la historia de la aerostación internacional al realizar, en globo aerostático, el mismo recorrido que Colón al descubrir América.
Este mes, con motivo de los 20 años de su cruce del Atlántico desde España a América, Lola Feliu, hermana de Tomás, co-organizadora del proyecto y responsable de la coordinación del rescate por mar y tierra durante el recorrido, nos presentará la película documental que se rodó en la travesía, compartiendo todos los peligros y entresijos de este proyecto donde ambos pilotos perdieron su vida.
Lola Feliu se licenció en Economía y Sociología por la Universidad de Barcelona. Aventurera por naturaleza, se formó como piloto de competición en el deporte de aerostación. Así viajó prácticamente por todos los continentes participando en competiciones internacionales y realizando diversos proyectos de record. Creó una empresa de publicidad con globos aerostáticos, y organizó numerosas competiciones internacionales de globos aerostáticos, incluyendo la organización de un Campeonato de Europa y prestigiosos Grand Prix.
In February 1992, two Spanish men -Tomás Feliu and Jesus González Green- broke numerous world records of distance and permanence creating a milestone in the history of international aerostation travelling in a hot air balloon following the same route that Columbus did when discovering America.
This month, on the occasion of the 20 years of their Atlantic crossing from Spain to America, Lola Feliu, Tomás sister, co-organizer of the project and responsible for coordinating the rescue by land and sea during the journey, will introduce the documentary that was shot during trip, sharing with us all the dangers and intricacies of this project where both pilots lost their lives.
Lola Feliu graduated in Economics and Sociology from the University of Barcelona. Adventurous by nature, was formed as a racing pilot in the sport of aerostation. She has traveled practically all over the continents participating in international competitions and performing various record projects. She has also created an advertising company with hot air balloons, and has organized numerous international balloon competitions, including the organization of an European Championship and a prestigious Grand Prix.

The annual international documentary film festival, Persistence Resistance, opened in the capital on Feb 9th and runs till Feb 17th. Sohaila Kapur's first film, Birds, or Parinday, based on the true story of a woman serving a life sentence for murdering her husband, is being screened at the main audi, IIC, on wed, feb 15, 10 a.m., as part of the festival. Familiar faces from the Delhi stage can be seen in it. The festival will be covered in a program titled The State of Culture, on Lok Sabha Television, on Monday, Feb 13th, 6:30 p.m., with repeats at midnight and on wed, 15th, at 1 p.m.
