I hadn't read the book, but my partner just did and it turns out that Julie has
a major crush on DS - calling him a "paragon" in one sentence (well, she has a
point there).
In one chapter, she describes baking a pecan cake for a post play-reading party
for a small theater company. DS was part of the reading and Julie wrote that
she had a fantasy of his tasting her cake and then scooping her in his arms and
laying a big kiss on her.
Of course, he didn't though he did compliment her on the cake. But she does have
good taste.
You have to wonder what DS thought of her multiple mentions of him in the book.
Nice that his son Tay contributes a song to the film version.
