RE: [David Strathairn] New DS Projects: "The Tempest" & "Waiting for Godot"

Wow-Waiting for Godot! Sure is a shame he isn't one of the leads. Glad to hear
that John Goodman is involved though, I have been wondering where he's been.
Tempest sounds great too! Thanks for the info-Lisa

Tempest" & "Waiting for Godot"

DS has just finished shooting a new film version of "The Tempest," being
directed by Julie Taymor, who did a film of "Titus Andronicus" back in the 90's
as well as the recent "Across the Universe."IMDB doesn't list the character that
DS plays - it's not Prospero. In this film version, Prospero has a gender change
to Prospera, and is played by the superb Helen Mirren. Not sure how well this
will work, but it should be interesting.Interesting, motley cast from the UK and
US: Chris Cooper (who plays the villanous Antonio, Prospera's brother), Alan
Cumming, Alfred Molina and Russell Brand as the two comic characters, & Djimon
Hounsou as Caliban. My guess is that DS plays Gonzalo, one of the people
shipwrecked on Properos(as) island. He is the one genuinely good character in
the play.Next DS joins a new production of Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" in NYC
at the Roudabout Theater as the character Lucky. The two leads are Nathan Lane
and Bill Irwin. John Goodman is also in the cast. Pity DS isn't one of the
leads, IMO. Performances start on April 10th, 2009 and the official opening
night is April 30th. It's being called a limited engagement, but there's no end
date listed.
