Dan has done one of JT LeRoy's readings before. I wouldn't know if he
might be attending this event, but it might be a fun event anyway for
those in NYC.

An Extra Special Live Performance by Thistle!
JT LeRoy provides lyrics for this San Francisco-based rock band
fronted by
those dearest to him, his family Astor and Speedy. This extension of
his
family has already musically inspired many, including Billy Corgan
(Smashing
Pumpkins/Zwan), who has written a song for Thistle which will debut
at this
special event.
What some folks are saying about Thistle:
"JT LeRoy's band ignores the fashionable garage band template to
explore
uncharted college rock territory." -- The Face
"It's very cool and angry sounding. I dug it." -- Madonna
"It rocks good and hard but it never makes me feel dirty or dumb. I
found
out what a bad girl must. Ha! What a fucking great song. I dig
Thistle very
much!" -- Stephan Jenkins, Third Eye Blind

ABOUT THE MCAULEY PROGRAM: The McAuley Program is run by Dr. Terrence
Owens, JT's therapist and the man JT credits with starting him
writing. It
provides high quality and accessible mental health services for
adolescents
and is the only inpatient treatment center of its kind in San
Francisco.
ABOUT JT: JT LeRoy is the author of the international best sellers,
Sarah
(being made into a film by Steven Shainberg) and The Heart is
Deceitful
Above All Things (being made into a film by Asia Argento). His third
book
will be out on Viking in 2004. JT is associate producer on Gus Van
Sant's
new film, Elephant, for HBO films. He is part of the rock band Thistle
(thistlehq.com). Thistle is currently recording with producer Dennis
Harring. A massive rock fan, JT wrote the bio for the new Zwan and
Liz Phair
records, can be heard on the new Third Eye Blind record, and has sold
what's
left of his soul to rock n roll. www.jtleRoy.com
ABOUT INDEX MAGAZINE: index is an interview magazine founded in 1996
by the
internationally acclaimed painter Peter Halley. Its rich, in-depth
interview
format lets people in film, fashion, art, music, design, and the
literary
world--including Rem Koolhaas, Kathleen Hanna, Isabelle Huppert, and
Terry
Richardson--speak in their own words about what matters most to them.
Index's reputation among culture mavens and makers alike may now be
unmatched in North America, according to a recent article in the
Toronto
Star. Index interviewed JT in the summer of 2001, after which the
author
became a regular contributor to the magazine. Read his interview at
