You're invited to kick off the holidays with SourceWorks Theatre as
we present our annual production of "A QUEER CAROL," the critically
acclaimed comedy by JOE GODFREY that re-imagines the Dickens holiday
classic among a group of gay men in contemporary Manhattan.
Featuring DANNY PINTAURO (from TV's "Who's The
Boss"), this contemporary spin on the timeless holiday tale casts
Ebenezer "Ben" Scrooge as a wealthy and prominent interior designer
who spends his days decorating the Upper East Side homes of the rich
and famous. Assisting Scrooge is none other than the hopelessly
overworked Bob Cratchit, who must contend with both his employer's
abuses and the care of his partner Tim, an East Village office temp
struggling with HIV. When Scrooge huffily dismisses a fundraiser
collecting for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, it sets a chain of
ghostly visitations into motion, including appearances from the very
dead--and very buff--Jacob Marley as well as the Ghosts Of Christmas
Past (Marilyn Monroe) Present (a fierce black drag queen) and Future.
Last year's premiere production of "A Queer Carol" wowed
audiences and critics alike. Martin Denton from nytheatre.com
wrote "The hippest, funniest and warmest stage version of Dickens'
story that I've come across this year...you won't find a more good
natured or warmhearted holiday treat anywhere in New York." Adrienne
Onofrifrom Curtain Up called the show "a realistic and sensitive
depiction of gay life that honors Dickens' message of love, goodwill
and charity. It's welcome entertainment for anyone who just can't sit
through another airing of `A Christmas Story' or `It's a Wonderful
Life.'"
